A new video is making the rounds online of rats scurrying along the pavements of Glasgow. The video was not only shocking because it was taken in broad daylight on a residential street, but the city is supposed to host COP26 in a few weeks.

The video was taken on Ardbeg Street in the Govanhill area on Wednesday (October 7), reports GlasgowLive.

It shows a total of four rats appearing from under a car then disappearing into a hedge outside a block of tenements. Watch it here.

The person who shared the video, who wishes to remain anonymous, told Glasgow Live: “I suppose after the sighting of rats become such a regular everyday occurrence it isn’t a shock anymore.”

“What I do find shocking and completely unacceptable is this council’s complete lack of willingness to clean up the streets and take enforcement upon those who behave in a manner which attracts vermin on such a large scale.”

The video has been viewed over 20,000 times to date, with many expressing their shock and concern at the sight of the rats roaming the streets in broad daylight.

Afterwards, other videos started appearing on twitter showing rats along the trash bins in the city.

This comes after Glasgow’s rat-infested side streets and alleyways were branded the city’s “secret shame”, according to GlasgowLive, amid the ongoing waste row ahead of COP26.

GMB officials have urged First Minister Nicola Sturgeon to manage the situation, warning staff are risking injury to get the streets tidied up in time for the eco conference.
